Every market has its own tariff structure, homologation requirements, and buyer preferences. Here's what we've learned running cars through the most common corridors.
Bangladesh imposes steep duties on completely built-up (CBU) vehicles — often 150%+ when cumulative taxes and supplementary duties are applied. This makes SKD (semi-knocked-down) imports far more economical for dealers with access to a bonded assembly partner. Chattogram is the primary port; Dhaka dealers typically take delivery there. Zeekr, BYD, and Geely Galaxy are the EV brands we see most often.
Albania's EV market is small but growing fast, driven by urban dealers in Tirana serving Italian and Greek cross-border buyers. CBU is the norm — duties are manageable for EU-homologated vehicles. We route through Durrës or via Italian ports (Bari, Ancona) for onward delivery.
GCC markets require specific homologation (hot-weather battery testing, A/C performance, Arabic-language documentation). We work only with GCC-spec factory builds — not Chinese-domestic vehicles repurposed. Jebel Ali is our anchor port. Premium buyers dominate: Zeekr 009, BYD Seal, Xpeng G9.
Russia's car market has undergone major restructuring. Chinese brands — particularly Geely, Chery, and Haval — now hold significant market share. Vladivostok is the most common port of entry for used vehicle imports; Novorossiysk for new CBU.
Pakistan's Engineering Development Board (EDB) regulates vehicle imports tightly, with strong preference for local assembly. SKD and CKD are the primary shipping modes. Deepal (Changan) and BYD Atto 3 are popular entry-level EVs.
West African markets absorb both new and used CBU vehicles. Lagos (Nigeria) and Tema (Ghana) are the primary ports. Chery Tiggo 8 and Geely Coolray have mature dealer networks with local parts supply.
Spanish-language documentation is essential. MG (SAIC), BYD, and Chery already have dealer presence in Mexico, Chile, Peru, and Brazil. We complement existing networks by serving smaller independent buyers and specific fleet operators.
Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are fast-growing EV markets with improving charging infrastructure. We ship both via sea (to Caspian ports or onward from Russian Pacific) and via overland freight from western China.
